CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Tricia Reid

CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Tricia Reid

Tricia Reid joined the Porter County CASA program in January 2024. She had been thinking about becoming a CASA volunteer for few years before she was able to make the commitment. There is a time for everything, volunteering included, and she decided to take the plunge in late 2023 by contacting the CASA office to get more information about the program.

One of Tricia’s favorite things about being a CASA volunteer is interacting with the children for whom she is advocating. Helping them through a turbulent time in their lives by being a constant, steady presence gives her a feeling of pride and accomplishment. In her life outside of volunteering, Tricia is a special education teacher, so it makes perfect sense that helping children is one of her most important goals. She has enjoyed meeting people who share that same goal of doing what is in the best interest of children.

During her time as a CASA volunteer, she has appreciated all of the support she has gotten from her supervisor, Sarah Arnold. Tricia also credits the CASA training classes, the CASA staff, and other volunteers for making her feel welcome. Throughout her experience with CASA, she has learned a lot about the child welfare system as well as a tremendous amount about empathy when it comes to those who are struggling.

When Tricia isn’t volunteering, she enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking, and riding her motorcycle. She also likes to take ceramic classes, coaching, photography, and White Sox baseball games. Tricia is a Renaissance woman, and we feel grateful to have her as part of our team here at Porter County CASA!
