CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Stacy Vesling

CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Stacy Vesling

“It really does take a village.”

When Stacy Vesling left teaching fourth grade a little less than two years ago, she was looking for a way to continue to support children while making a positive impact in her community. She was familiar with CASA through her years in the classroom, and she decided that joining the Porter County CASA Program would be a good fit for her.

One of the things that Stacy enjoys about being a CASA volunteer is working with the children, but she has also learned a lot about the child welfare system and how it works. She is inspired by all of the people who look after children in care, including fellow CASAs, DCS workers, service providers, parents, and caretakers.

Stacy feels that she will remain a volunteer in the CASA program for the long run. She says, “I strongly believe that every child needs to have at least one stable adult in their life that they can count on. Being a child advocate allows me to be certain that a child’s voice is being heard and understood by those around them.” She also credits the “very thorough CASA training program” to opening her eyes to the services that are available to children in the child welfare system to help them through a difficult time in their lives. There are so many people who work together to offer those services to children as well as their families in hopes of strengthening the family unit with a goal of reunification. Stacy also learned that it is vital for a CASA volunteer to keep an open mind: being the best advocate for children means understanding that all people have different experiences that ultimately shape them into the people they become.

When Stacy isn’t volunteering to help children, she loves to travel, hike, ski, and read. She is also a big fan of the Ohio State University. Go Buckeyes!

Porter County CASA is thankful to have Stacy as a fierce advocate for children!
