CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Scott Lewis
“The support system from other CASA members has been amazing and makes me feel good about being part of such an important organization. “
Scott Lewis is one of our fabulous newer CASAs in the program. Scott completed his training in November of 2023, and he happily took on his first case shortly after. Before retiring at the beginning of April, Scott worked in Claims Leadership for State Farm for thirty-five years. Although he is currently working part-time at Menard’s, he knew he also wanted to use his post-retirement time to do something with purpose.
Scott loves working with children, and he knew that volunteering as a CASA would allow him to make a difference in children’s lives. He says, “Also, my daughter is a special needs teacher out in Washington State and encouraged me to volunteer knowing how well I mentor and build relationships with others.” As a former coach of his daughter’s sports teams, Scott knows how to create bonds with young people.
The CASA program has given Scott the chance to be a positive role model and know that he is having a positive impact in people’s lives. He is determined not to be judgmental because everyone has issues or problems that they bring to the table. He has learned not only to be the voice for the child but also to support and encourage others involved to make positive changes in their lives that will ultimately impact the child’s life for the better. Even after a short time in the program, Scott feels strongly about its effect in our community, and he often speaks to others about how CASA volunteers help.
When Scott isn’t busy spreading the word about all the great things CASA does, he enjoys traveling, playing golf, and volunteering. He is always looking for new ways to spend his time after retirement, and we feel so lucky at the Porter County CASA program that he lends his time to the children who need him.
