CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Erin Burke

CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Erin Burke

“I think that all anyone needs sometimes is someone to listen.”

Erin Burke is one of our new CASA volunteers who joined out program in June of this year. She is a recent graduate of Purdue University (Boiler up!) and has a degree in pharmaceutical sciences. She plans to pursue law school in the future. When Erin isn’t advocating for children as a CASA, she loves to read and run, although not at the same time! She finished her first marathon last fall, and she hopes to train for another someday.

Erin decided to volunteer as a CASA because she wanted to provide a safe space for children who may not have one otherwise. She has an exceptionally kind heart and the knowledge to do what is in a child’s best interest. She was also interested in giving back to her community, and she is certainly fulfilling that desire in her role as a CASA volunteer. So far, Erin’s favorite thing about being a CASA is when the children she serves share details about their lives with her. She loves hearing about how school is going for them or what their new favorite video games are.

Erin sees herself remaining a CASA because she can see how important it is for children to have someone in their corner who will continue to advocate for them. She also feels that being a CASA volunteer has taught her the importance of listening skills. Those listening and communication skills come in handy when we are gathering information about the family’s story. She says, “I also see how passionate everyone on the CASA staff is about helping children, and this has made my experience with CASA so special.” Erin credits everyone involved with DCS and CASA for helping to better the lives of children every day.

We are grateful to have Erin bring her empathy to her volunteer role at Porter County CASA!
