CASA Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Mike Reach
Mike Reach has been with the CASA program for one year. He works as a business unit manager in a steel processing center. When he isn’t working or advocating for children, Mike enjoys fitness, hiking, and sports. He also likes music, house projects, and spending time with his family.
Mike decided to join the CASA program as a volunteer because he wanted to help children and families in crisis. He says, “Being involved with CASA means that you are going to offer the very best you have to those who need help the most. That appealed to me – to lend a hand where one is really needed.”
One of Mike’s favorite things about being a CASA volunteer is the rapport he has developed with the child for whom he advocates. He has gained an appreciation for the people who work within the child welfare system including CASA, DCS, and service providers. He wants to remain involved with CASA due to the good training that CASA volunteers go through before beginning a case and the training that continues throughout. He strongly feels that sticking with things enhances development of skills; it’s critical to keep good communication and rapport with the children involved.
Throughout his time at CASA, Mike has learned that there is a lot involved when it comes to effectively dealing with children and families in crisis. There are many people who step up to help as much as possible and to support those who need assistance. He has also learned how valuable a CASA is in the child welfare system, including in the courtroom.
We are grateful to Mike for being so giving of his time and his generous spirit to advocate for children in need!
